As the health risks of Big Ag’s pesticides are becoming ever clearer and more urgent, I urge you to support Sen. Cory Booker’s Pesticide Injury Accountability Act (S.2324) to safeguard access to justice for all harmed by toxic chemicals, and a Farm Bill that finally puts public health first.

The Pesticide Injury Accountability Act would ensure that pesticide manufacturers are held responsible for the harm caused by their toxic products. Specifically, it would amend the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act to create a federal right of action — a direct pathway to bring suit in federal court — for anyone who is harmed by a toxic pesticide.

Research has shown that glyphosate, the main ingredient in Bayer’s pesticide, Roundup, is a probable carcinogen most commonly associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer.  In fact, 60% of U.S. counties with heavy glyphosate use have non-Hodgkin lymphoma rates above the national average.

The corporations responsible for this public health crisis must be held accountable, and affected people must be able to seek justice.

The people most exposed to pesticides — landscapers, farmers, farmworkers, and rural families — should not bear the costs from pesticide use alone. Congress must pass the Pesticide Injury Accountability Act to ensure the burden falls where it belongs: on pesticide corporations that profit from these chemicals.
